Meet staff at the Main Entrance to the Gallery at 10.15am. We will travel together to Gallery 8 on Level 1 for a 10.30am start.
Art Labs is a series of artist-led workshops connecting young audiences with artists, artmaking and the National Gallery collection.
In this Art Lab, join multidisciplinary artist and designer Jordan Gogos for a full-day workshop transforming clothes into expressive works of art.
Jordan Gogos has collaborated with Jenny Kee and drawn inspiration from both Kee and Linda Jackson, incorporating upcycled materials from their Step into Paradise exhibition in his own designs. Their bold, visionary practice continues to inspire his approach to wearable art.
Start with a tour of the exhibition Know My Name: Kee, Jackson and Delaunay led by Simeran Maxwell, Associate Curator, Australian Art. Learn how Sonia Delaunay’s dynamic prints, drawings and textile designs inspired the iconic and vibrant early designs of Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson, at a time when these two leading fashion designers were at the beginning of their shared journey in creating clothes as works of art.
After the tour, join Jordan in the Learning Studio to reimagine fashion through the lens of art in a practical workshop. Using fabric paints, vibrant colours and fabric mediums, explore the use of fashion design to express identity, imagination and transformation.
All art materials provided.
What to Bring:
👕A preloved white or light blue garment to use as canvas for your wearable art.
🍎 Please ensure you bring a packed lunch and a water bottle for this full-day workshop.
👟Comfortable clothes suitable for artmaking.
The exhibition Know My Name: Kee, Jackson and Delaunay is a Know My Name project, the National Gallery initiative celebrating the work of all women artists to enhance understanding of their contribution to Australia’s cultural life.
